Dress Code

At SVE we want students to be comfortable and to have a sense of self-worth in their school environment. Appropriate clothing is part of that environment. Students are expected to come to school each day clean, neat, and wearing appropriate clothing for this setting and the weather. This means that students will not wear or bring items such as clothing or jewellery that will distract others or themselves from learning. For example, ripped jeans and T-shirts with inappropriate language or discriminatory logos and graphics are not permitted. Net T-shirts, bare midriffs and/or short-shorts or short skirts are not suitable for school wear. Any clothing that portrays or promotes violence, sexual harassment or innuendo or has any drug or alcohol related theme is not acceptable and will not be allowed. Muscle shirts or tops with spaghetti straps are inappropriate for school as is any type of attire which might be worn at the beach. Any style of clothing that reveals undergarments is not allowed.
Students are expected to bring outdoor clothing which is appropriate for the weather. This may include sunscreen as the summer weather approaches. The most suitable footwear for outdoor play is athletic footwear if the weather permits. Dress shoes or sandals with smooth soles seem to be the cause of many falls. Sandals with rubber soles are allowed but flip-flops are discouraged. Bare feet or sock feet are not allowed either in or out of the building. As a general guideline any comfortable type of clothing that might be termed casual is suitable for school.
