Message From the Principal:

February 22, 2021

 Dear SVE Families,

New: Single-symptom screening and enhanced isolation requirements

In response to new COVID-19 variants of concern in Ontario, the Ministry of Education has updated its COVID-19 screening tool with increased expectations.

This more rigorous approach states:

  1. That everyone in a household should stay home if anyone in the household:
    • has COVID-19 symptoms; or
    • is waiting for test results after experiencing symptoms until the person with symptoms gets a negative COVID-19 test result, is cleared by public health, or is diagnosed with another illness.
  2. If a student or staff member has even 1 new or worsening symptom, then that person must isolate for 10 days or until:
    • they receive a negative COVID-19 test result;
    • they receive an alternate diagnosis by a health care professional; or
    • it has been 10 days since their symptom onset, and they are feeling better.

  3. All household members of that person who has a symptom and is isolating/being tested, must also stay home until the symptomatic person receives a negative test result or an alternate medical diagnosis.

  4. If the symptomatic individual tests positive or is not tested the symptomatic individual must isolate (including from household members) for 10 days from symptom onset, and all household contacts must isolate until 14 days have passed from their last contact with the symptomatic individual.

  5. If a child develops an illness during the school day, and their siblings are at the same school, they should all be picked up together. However, if a sibling attends a different school, they can finish their day so long as they remain well.

Please use the Ministry screener
https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/
to ensure your child is clear to come to school, next steps are listed under the screener results.

Thank you as always for your cooperation and support as we continue to adapt to these changes in provincial protocols. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me or your child’s teacher.

Sincerely

Tracy Dinsmore

Principal

Dear Parents & Guardians of SVE,
We are so proud of all your resilience and hard work over the last three weeks! We are looking forward to having students back in the building! With the announcement of return to school on Monday January 25th , 2021, I wanted to ensure that parents know that students in Grades 1-3 are now required to wear masks and masks are recommended for students in kindergarten. Please work with your child on how to wear their mask, when to change their mask and the importance of physical distancing. We recommend sending your child to school with three washable masks as masks get damp when worn from outside to inside and throughout the day. If a student requires a mask while at school and doesn’t have a spare, we do have a small supply of child size disposable masks to distribute.
Return to school guidelines require that parents complete the COVID screener for students every day before sending them to school. The student screening questionnaire is found at https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/
Public health will soon be providing us with an updated, easy to follow flow chart of what to do if your child is feeling ill or has a symptom.
We are all keen to stay learning in the building so please make sure you are not sending your child to school if they are unwell, and you are following the Covid screener carefully. If students become unwell at school you will be called to come and immediately pick them up, please have alternate arrangements ready if your ability to pick up immediately is difficult.
We would also like to remind parents that they are NOT to drop off or pick up students in the zones designated for bus unloading/loading. For morning drop off please arrive after 8:45 am, park and walk your child (away from the bus zone) to the gate entrance of the playground. End of day pick up is at 3:15 pm. Wear your mask, it sets a great example for children and always maintain physical distance, even while wearing PPE.
We are all in this together and I’m confident that the SVE community is one of enormous caring and kindness for all.

As always, please feel free to reach out to the school if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Ms. T. Dinsmore,

 Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians of SVE students,

Please read the following letter from Director Wilder regarding Inclement Weather Process
November 27, 2020
Dear Parents/Guardians:
This is to update you on the process for school bus cancellations and school closures that may occur during the 2020 – 2021 school year. School bus cancellations are the decision of the bus companies, while school closures are the decision of the principal and Bluewater District School Board. This winter, school closure decisions will be impacted significantly by the COVID-19 pandemic. In the past, combining students was a strategy often used on ‘inclement weather days’ when not all students and staff were able to get to school. However, in our current situation, public health guidelines do not allow the mixing of student cohorts. In order to prioritize the health and safety of our students and staff, the following plans are being put into place for the remainder of the current school year. Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 Schools will do their best to remain open when buses are not running, and as usual, students will be welcome to attend if they can get there safely. If buses are cancelled, and your child is unable to get to school otherwise, students are asked to log in to their online classroom learning environment (Brightspace or Office365) at the usual start of the school day to receive instructions from their classroom teacher. Teachers will have posted work for students to complete and, if possible, will be available to connect with students synchronously. Students who do not have access to the appropriate technology are asked to follow up with their teacher when they return to school. Teachers are working to ensure all students have the information required to access the online platform. If the school is closed to students, the above process would apply to everyone. Grades 9 to 12 Due to the amount of material delivered in one day under the current secondary model, when buses are cancelled, secondary schools will be closed to students except for those in self-contained special education classrooms. Learning will shift to online. Students should log in to their classroom learning environment (Brightspace or Office365) at the usual start of the school day to receive instructions from their classroom teacher. Teachers will have posted work for students to complete and, if possible, will be available to connect with students synchronously. Students who do not have access to the appropriate technology are asked to follow up with their teacher when they return to school. Teachers are working to ensure all students have the information required to access their online learning environment. Free apps for Microsoft Teams and Brightspace are available for mobile phones, which students may wish to use for this purpose. Students in self-contained special education classrooms are welcome to attend school on these days if they can safely do so. Remote Learning School Learning for students in remote learning schools will not be impacted by school or bus cancellations. School bus cancellations and school closures will continue to be announced using our usual processes. As always, parents/guardians can subscribe to receive timely email or text alerts regarding cancellations, delays, and closures from the Student Transportation Service Consortium of Grey-Bruce. Visit mybrucegreyschoolbus.ca and click on the Parent Portal icon on the righthand side to log in or create an account. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and support as we continue to adapt our processes during an unprecedented school year. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your child’s school.
Sincerely,
Lori Wilder Director of Education

Thank you and have a great weekend

Take care!
